I was psyched to do a food review on one of the most blogged about resto-bars to date – The Relik Tapas Bar & Lounge located at the Fort. Unfortunately, my focus that night wasn’t on the dishes so I’ll write about it on the stand point of being of a nightspot rather than a restaurant.

Anyways, a friend from Dubai visited so we decided to take her to out for some dinner, drinks and dancing. Since one of our gal pal DJs there, am guessing that’s how we decided on our place of destination.

The resto-bar is situated on the second floor of the Commercenter Building. If you’re lucky, you can get to park on the same floor.

Since Relik was pretty much a “first” for most of us, I was totally looking forward to it given all the rave reviews I’ve read online. For some reason though, it didn’t really live up to the hype. Then again, maybe I was expecting too much. As mentioned, I hardly focused on the meal since I was having too much fun with my girls (it didn’t even matter that we spent close to twelve thousand). Keep in mind though that their menu is quite affordable – we just happen to be a big group who kept ordering that night (reason why our tab grew). Apart from dinner, we had lots of wine, beer, cocktails and their very own signature drinks.

Now although I didn’t feel that the food was that memorable our guest loved the Spanish and Mediterranean cuisine so it’s all good. The appetizers we had included Shrimp Quesadillas, Pumpkin Soup, Tita Negra Calamari, Baked Australian Brie and Chorizig. We weren’t able to try the Seafood and Saffron paella (I think it wasn’t available that night) but we did have the Salpicao, Barber Pork Belly plus other stuff which I forgot to note down (no worries, I’ll do a more decent review on their food next time around) 🙂

So what exactly can you expect from a night out at Relik’s? For starters, I liked the ambiance of the place when I first came in. It had a warm and cozy feel to it. You can expect a dimmer haven as the clock strikes 10 with some mashed-up beats emerging.

The DJ played a fusion of R&B, HipHop, Dance, Trance and House – while throwing in some 90’s flava and modern hits. There was a lot of commercially appealing music to get the “kids” (I say kids coz they looked like they were in their late teens to early twenties) grooving and moving. The place seems to be more for the hip, young, partyphils.

It was good that the table reserved for us was in the VIP room. It was spacious with nice lightings, couches and TV. It’s a great sanctuary if you need a break from all that dancing. You can just sit, talk and bond with your friends on a more intimate level.

Service-wise, the waiters (and bouncers) were pretty nice; they were quite accommodating  and loved assisting us which is a plus. The service was also fast which was a delight despite the growing crowd.

The aura of the place had a great vibe with night crawlers up for a good time (which is why you go out on the first place right?). I personally had a  blast but am thinking it was because of the crowd I was with that night. My friends were just a fun bunch to hang with that we just enjoyed the night away.

As the night progressed, we just ended up loving the evening all the more that we couldn’t believe it was four (4am). Funny thing was, I already saw several tags in my Facebook (yes, that is the drill) – with photos reminding me of that night.

All in all, if you’re looking for a great place to relax, retreat and unwind, Relik is an ideal lounge that offers both convenience and comfort. It’s not necessarily a place to see or be seen in, but it is a perfect haven for those causal, laid back nights where you just want to chill and have a good time.
